The sun has gone around many times since the my last E-News. I was diagnosed with
Stage III cancer in March. I have completed
surgery and treatment and I am now on the mend.
This continues to be a frightening and at the same time amazing
journey. I have experienced things and I
have had shifts that I had thought would never happen. Stay tuned for wisdom
learned from my experience in future E-News and for the new cancer resources section on my web site.

How Can I Help?
When people hear I have had a significant experience with
cancer, they often say, "what can I do to help you?".
Because I am self employed I lost a lot of income this
year and I don't have very good health insurance. This means I have a reduced income coupled
with large medical bills and on-going medical expenses. The best way to help now is to order a
SoulArt piece or join a Strum Your Bliss Guitar Circle. Also, please help by spreading the word about
these services to your friends and loved ones.
Thank you for your support and caring.

Introducing SoulArt
With a life threatening illness there is a lot to work
through. Just the acceptance of what is
can be a long, gradual process. I
intuitively turned to drawing as a way to shed light on my own process and to
uncover clues for moving forward with strength and courage. After a time, I began doing drawings for my partner
and this lead to drawings for friends.
The requests kept coming and SoulArt was born.
We have all thought about our
problems and talked about them with friends, family and even professionals. Our
core patterns and challenges are usually quite stubborn and don't shift easily.
Often even a clear awareness of what is happening and how events are triggered
does not create the changes we seek. The roots of our problems lie beneath our
conscious minds, in our unconscious.
Because SoulArt is non-linear
and non-verbal, it speaks to our unconscious minds by showing a representation
of what is underneath the surface. Our unconscious minds are very non-linear
and responsive to non-linear information. This is one of the reasons the arts
are so valuable for healing. Once we see what lies underneath the troublesome
situation, we have more information and an understanding of where we are and
what stands in our way. Once you have more information, you can begin to make
choices from that new insight and this begins to shift the old patterns. In
some cases, SoulArt has been known to shift a pattern just when a person has
spent time gazing at it. Each SoulArt piece comes with a written interpretation.

Lessons from (Domesticated) Nature
The Pomeranian
One day, motoring along to teach a guitar class, I saw a lovely Pomeranian dog walking by himself along the sidewalk of a busy street. He was well groomed and well taken care of and clearly should not have been out by himself.
Nevertheless, his head was held high and he was strutting down the street as though he owned it. I imagine that little dog was quite afraid. I pictured him looking around and saying to himself, "Well, whenever I've been in a place like this before, I've been on a walk, so that's what I'll do".
I thought isn't that just what we have to do in life sometimes, whether it is a cancer diagnosis or some other unexpected problem? We stand up tall, embody our dignity and do the best we know how.
(I told the students in my guitar class this because I wanted them to play their guitars with the attitude of the Pomeranian. One of the boys asked, "Why didn't you stop and help it?". That is a great question. I was on the way to school and did not help the dog. It is a nice neighborhood and I knew someone would. I have helped lots of lost animals over the years, including a dog that ran into our house once on New Years Eve and refused to go back out. The owner was very relieved when we called.)
